CLRL Applauds Ministry of Finance for Forming Technical Working Group on Unclaimed Funds

5/31/2026

The Centre for Legitimacy and Rule of Law (CLRL) welcomes with optimism the recent formation of a Technical Working Group by the Ministry of Finance to address the management of unclaimed funds in Ghana.

This inauguration, held on 20th May 2026, follows our earlier press conference urging the Bank of Ghana and other stakeholders to take decisive action to ensure families can access unclaimed funds. These funds, often classified as dormant accounts by banks, are eventually transferred to the Bank of Ghana, leaving many families unable to benefit from resources rightfully theirs.

We commend the Ministry of Finance for responding to this call and for mandating the Technical Working Group to develop a comprehensive framework for the management of unclaimed funds in Ghana.

CLRL remains committed to engaging with key stakeholders, including the Bank of Ghana, the Attorney General, Parliament, Mobile Money Companies, Banks, and other financial institutions, to ensure this initiative succeeds for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

As a non-political civil society organisation, CLRL advocates for justice and the rule of law in matters that directly affect ordinary citizens. On 6th May 2026, with the support of the Institute of Liberty and Policy Innovations (ILAPI), we launched our 2026 project titled Release the Unclaimed Funds. This project seeks to establish a clear, accessible pathway for families to reclaim funds that rightfully belong to them.

We will continue to advocate, collaborate, and monitor progress until this vision is fully realised.

Signed,

Divine Nkrumah
